Hi! My name is Sarah Livingston, and I am in the Bachelor of Communications and Digital Journalism program, majoring in new media studies with a minor in marketing. Alongside my studies here at TRU, I sit on the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization, Microbiology Outreach Foundation, working as their secretary and grant writer under the Operations and Finances department. While working for this Foundation I have been able to use my skills learned here during my studies at TRU. I have been responsible for writing and developing grant proposals to secure funding, recording meeting minutes, as well as composing a Code of Conduct for the Foundation.
Throughout my studies at TRU, I have developed a number of skills that I can continue to use in my future endeavors. Some of these skills include strong writing and verbal skills, critical thinking, and articulating ideas effectively. I can work positively and efficiently amongst a team as I have developed the ability to build, collaborate, motivate, and maintain relationships. Some skills that I have learned at TRU that I have been able to apply directly to my roles while volunteering for the Foundation are efficiently taking and typing notes and organizational skills such as keeping track of various documents. I have also applied time-management skills learned, such as organizing my time to meet deadlines and managing multiple applications. I can tailor proposals to meet specific needs, priorities, and perspectives and I am proficient in researching and identifying potential audiences and funding sources as well as gathering relevant data.
