During my four years here at TRU pursuing this degree, I have loved learning and honing my skills in creative writing, creating press releases and social media plans, developing design skills, learning valuable teamwork skills, and writing for a wide range of audiences. I’ve always loved reading, particularly, fantasy fiction, crime, and creative non-fiction novels, so I am looking at a career in the publishing world. Other career paths I’m considering are working with the City of Kamloops in their Communications and/or Tourism departments.
Throughout my studies at TRU, I have learned and recognized the importance of local-to-global awareness in respecting the value of diverse cultures and worldviews as many group assignments have allowed me to work and learn from people who come from different backgrounds and offer unique perspectives. I apply this outside of school as well by helping to resolve and avoid conflicts and foster positive relationships with my coworkers and customers who are of a variety of personalities and ages. I have been able to demonstrate and hone effective communication skills to a wide range of audiences as well as apply the necessary skills of effective leadership and teamwork through connection with my peers and mentors. As I near the end of my studies, I have started reflecting on, and setting goals for, continuing my education beyond my university experience. I have been researching a master’s degree in digital marketing and what doors that would open for me in my future.
