For this piece I chose my research proposal presentation where I proposed a sustainable solution to plastic containers for sports arenas. My research led me to a company called NotPla that makes a plastic-like material out of seaweed. I used knowledge attained over the years at TRU in many different classes on how to effectively make and present a slideshow presentation as well as create a professional business proposal. In my advanced professional communications class I learned how to effectively create slideshows and visually appealing proposals that will enhance audience attention and retention. This class also helped me to hone my skills in public speaking. I not only received feedback on my slideshow and proposal but my speaking skills and posture as well that helped me gain confidence in public speaking. I can apply this knowledge to a wide range of audiences and topics as I know the basics of how to make an effective, professional presentation and can tailor these skills to specific audience needs. This demonstrates connection and communication as I can effectively communicate skills appropriate to a range of audiences. This also demonstrates exploration and critical thinking as I can construct meaning from information by applying creative and critical thinking through research as seen in this research proposal document.
